About these terms
Okeydoor is run by Okeydoor Limited, a New Zealand company. These terms apply when you use Okeydoor. You agree to them when you make an account. Our privacy policy explains how we handle your information.
You need to be 18 or older to use Okeydoor.
Your account
- You sign in with a link we email you, so keep your email account secure.
- Use your own name and details, and keep them up to date.
- One person per account. Agents each have their own account in their office.
- You can delete your account at any time in the app.
Renting and buying
- Okeydoor is free for renters and buyers.
- Book viewings for times that suit you, and cancel if you can't make it.
- You can apply for a rental, or send your details about a home for sale, after you've viewed it, or if the lister says you can without viewing.
- Only upload documents that are yours and true. Only add other people's details, like referees, if they're happy for you to.
- Sharing your documents is always your choice, and you can stop at any time.
- Never pay a bond, rent or deposit to someone you haven't met at the home, and never before a tenancy agreement or sale agreement is signed. Okeydoor never asks you for money.
Listing a home
- You must have the right to rent out or sell the home, or be an agent acting for someone who does.
- Your ID must be verified before your first listing goes live, and your subscription (or your office's) must be running.
- We look over every listing before it goes live. We can ask for changes, refuse a listing, or take one down, for example if it's inaccurate, looks like a scam or breaks the law.
- Listings must be accurate and up to date. Photos must be of the home, and yours to use.
- Rental listings must show the weekly rent and can't invite bids or offers above it. Bond can't be more than four weeks' rent.
- Treat applicants fairly. Don't turn people down for reasons the Human Rights Act 1993 doesn't allow, like their race, religion, sex, disability, family status or because they get a benefit.
- Only use applicants' information to decide about that home, keep it secure, and don't keep it longer than you need. Don't download or copy documents you don't need.
- Do your own reference checks. Okeydoor checks IDs, but it doesn't check references, income or credit.
- If you're a licensed real estate agent or property manager, you're still bound by your own professional rules.
- Mark a home as let or sold, or close the listing, once it's no longer available.
Subscriptions
- Listing homes needs a subscription. Landlords and private sellers have their own. Agents and property managers have one per office, set up by the office manager, which covers every agent in that office. Each other office needs its own.
- Your first subscription starts with a free month. On the monthly plan, the next three months are $49 a month, then it's $89 a month. On the yearly plan, it's $828 a year after the free month. Prices are in New Zealand dollars.
- Payments are taken in advance by Stripe, monthly or yearly. If you cancel during the free month, you won't be charged.
- You can cancel at any time in Billing. Your subscription keeps running to the end of the period you've paid for, then stops. We don't refund part periods, unless the law says we must.
- If a payment fails, we'll try again. If it keeps failing, your subscription stops and your listings come down.
- If we change our prices, we'll tell you at least 30 days before, and the new price applies from your next payment after that.
What Okeydoor is and isn't
Okeydoor is a place to list and find homes. We aren't a party to any tenancy or sale, we aren't a real estate agent, and we don't hold bonds, rent or deposits. Listers and applicants deal with each other directly, and are each responsible for what they agree.
Our responsibility
We work hard to keep Okeydoor running and accurate, but we can't promise it will always be available or free of mistakes. We check IDs and look over listings, but we can't guarantee what listers or applicants tell you.
If you use Okeydoor for a business, like listing homes as a landlord or agent, the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 doesn't apply, as section 43 of that Act allows. As far as the law allows, our total responsibility to you is limited to what you've paid us in the 12 months before the problem. Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have that the law says can't be taken away.
Changes and the law
We may update these terms. If a change matters, we'll tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect. New Zealand law applies to these terms.
