Leave the old place reasonably clean and tidy, take all your rubbish, and gather every key. Book cleaners now if you want them.

Chargers, bedding, toilet paper, a kettle, any medication, and documents you'll need straight away.

Photograph the power meter, and the water meter if you pay for water, at the old place and the new one.

Walk through the old place with your landlord if you can, and take photos of every room.

Take dated photos of each room, and note any damage on the property inspection report before you sign it.

Your old landlord starts the refund in Bond Hub, and you get a notice to confirm the amounts. Only accept if you agree with them.

Your new landlord must lodge your bond with Tenancy Services, and you should get a confirmation.

Log in to myIR and change your contact details.

Change the address on your driver licence and on any vehicle you own.

So your voting papers come to the right place and you vote in the right electorate.

Your bank, employer, doctor and KiwiSaver provider all need your new address.
